Pour yourself a cup.
Social Media is really selling us "freedom" right now, but what does that mean and is it even a real thing?

First Sip
I feel like everyone is talking about freedom from work, life, etc. on social media right now. BUT what are we freeing ourselves from, can we be free and is it really just making us feel bad about our "regular" lives. If I see one more post about making 1 million dollars while sitting on a beach because someones business "runs with out them" I might have to just delete social media all together.
Would I love to make million dollars while sitting on the beach? OBVIOUSLY! Do I want the type or business and to make the decisions, sacrifices it takes to have this? Probably not. This might be a surprising in the world of "automating" your business and having it work with out you, but I actually LOVE my career. I started my practice from a place of wanting to be able to do more for my patients while doing less aka not being in the grind of seeing 4 patients an hour. I wanted to have 30-40-60 minutes with patients, have time to learn more, become more educated in the things that interested me and also more time to just live. Honestly being able to work out, run some errands, try some hobbies because I am not working 10 hour shifts has probably been the most helpful thing for being able to show up for my patients. I have time to rest and enjoy my life and also do something I love which I think might be actual freedom. Are there parts of being a Psych NP and running a private practice that are annoying? Absolutely. See my last post regarding admin tasks.

Vitamin D
It's summer and everyone is worrying about the summer slump. The last years, I woorried, I felt panicky about it, less intake calls, less appointments booked, but this year I prepared. I decided to take a few extra days off to have less holes in the my schedule. I reached out to a few providers I work closely with to let them knwo I am booking summer intakes if they have anyone who is looking for a provider, considering medications. I also decided I would crack into my every growing TBR (to be read) pile of books that is growing.
Here's what I'll be reading:
- Difficult to treat depression- Carlat (already loving this- HIGHLY reccomend)
- The biology of Trauma- Apigian
- Integrative Treatment for Adult ADHD- Tuckman
A part of not burning out is learning and preparing for the shifts in business, while also learning to go with the tide.

Second cup ☕
What are you struggling with in your private practice journey? Making the leap, finding new patients, admin tasks? The beginning always feels overhwleming but each step you take gets easier and the more reps you get in the easier it feels the second time. Every business decision you make, makes the next one easier- usually. I find that right now, I feel in the flow of business I know how to run my billing and admin tasks smoothly to not get overhwlemed and burned out, but it took some time to find what works for me.
What insights about private practice, burn out, Psych NP do you want to see? Shoot me a DM or reply to this email!
Thanks for being here- See you next month!
