A little intro...

Hello, I am Natalie a PMHNP who speiclaizes in child and adolescent mental health and I own my own practice. I have been working in mental health since 2010 after graduating with my B.S. in psychology and getting a night shift job on a small locked inpatient unit. I had NO plans to work in medical or mental health actually but I truly fell in the love with the job and co-workers. I started nursing school a little on a whim and just felt like it was me, I grew so much during the 2 year span of getting my RN as a person.

Fast forward to 2022 working in a child and adolescent clinic with a great group of workers when the winds of change come fluttering in the windows, COVID is gone (?) still here, still making its presence know, change in leadership at my job and co-workers who were all vlose to retirement encouraging me to look for a new job because there was a sense our clinic would not be around much longer. I toyed with the idea of starting my own practice but honestly I was too scared, I didn't think I was ready an an NP, I also felt like how the hell am I going to run a business, so I took the safe route an joined an outpatient practice as a 1099 where a colleague had been working for years. This practice was not the right fit for me, there were issues with communication, insurance credentialing which led to alot of lost money and ultimately I felt like I had to get out, but after learning about the credentialing and billing issues I couldn't unlearn what I knew and felt like I couldn't trust an office to be doing things correctly if I was a 1099 and most outpatient practices are 1099 these days. There was no transparency in what I was billing and getting paid and I knew I couldn't go to another practice and do that again so at my husnbands encouragement, a million texts and meetings with my besties about starting a business and how scared I was, I called the one friend I knew with a practice and asked her 15 million questions and then I began to Google How do I start a private practice relentlessly. There was no guide, course, or group to help at that point. I found after starting my practice, other NP's asking for help on how to start their practice and that is how the Psych NP Next Door was born. I hope to bring you insights, awareness and sometimes some downfalls of private practice to your inbox every month!

See you next month!
